Database optimization gave Dacapo possiblities for growth and innovation

With a Microsoft SQL database optimization, Dacapo ensured that their business-critical systems could keep pace with growth.
Digitization in focus
Dacapo has utilized the opportunities within digitalization to optimize a large number of processes and systems. Each item is equipped with certificates that describe the item's specifications, which can be used to trace the item back to where it comes from. The certificates can also be used to perform CO2 calculations, which is not an entirely easy discipline, as it places great demands on all links in the data chain. In order to create traceability for the customer, Dacapo has equipped their warehouse with handheld scanners, which register and track the goods' path from warehouse to the customer.
The large amounts of data from the warehouse are visualized around the organization, on large screens, both in the warehouse and in the offices. The purpose of the visualization is to optimize the process, helping the employees visually by, e.g. making the product's journey visible.
All of Dacapo's data is stored and processed in a Microsoft SQL database environment.
Dacapo uses the ERP software Microsoft Dynamic AX which together with their webshop and PowerBI (TimExteder and Targit) draws on the database. The database can be described as the heart of the company. Data flows with mutual updates that centralize data and create more trust in the data because it is only one master data variant.

A database that could not keep up
In line with Dacapo's rapid extensive growth and digitalization, they had perhaps implemented too many things in a short time. Therefore they needed to ensure that the SQL server was optimized to be able to keep up with the new growth. It was necessary for Dacapo to ensure both optimal performance and lower waiting time in the company's internal systems, but also in the external part aimed at customers, a significant part of the customer experience.
Fine-tuning of the databases
To ensure that the performance of the SQL servers could keep up with Dacapo's growth, Cegal performed a Microsoft SQL database optimization. A Cegal consultant was given the task of first analyzing and then fine-tuning the SQL server to Dacapo's needs. The consultant did this by looking back at the server's performance history, where the consultant could identify what led to irregularities in the server's performance. Then it was possible to rectify the database's shortcomings and at the same time ensure that all best practice was implemented.

The SQL database optimization has given Dacapo a stable and fast system to keep up with its growth and enable them for further growth in the future. Cegal still continuously assists Dacapo with further optimization of its database to ensure that performance is always optimal.
In addition, Dacapo has chosen to have Cegal Managed Services for its databases. Then the databases are monitored 24/7 by Cegal's database specialists. If there is an incident that needs to be dealt with, Dacapo is contacted, and small problems are solved on an ongoing basis before they grow into major challenges. As a part of the agreement, there are also ongoing status meetings, where historical data and future plans are discussed, so that IT is not what holds development plans back.
