What does a typical workday look like to you?

I often work on several projects at a time and have ongoing contact and meetings with the customers and colleagues linked to the projects.

For example, I work with project managers, infrastructure, and database consultants / administrators (DBA) but also users of the applications I have to integrate into and use data from. After all, they are the ones who have to work with what I do. Right now, for example, a data warehouse with associated Business Intelligence (BI) reports.

Sometimes I am also associated with pre-sales and talk to potential customers about their problems and how we can help solving them, with the technology and the approaches we use.

Which technologies do you work with?

I work with Microsoft technologies within data processing such as Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, SSIS, and Microsoft SQL Server. Technologies that are all used to work with data.

I keep up-to-date on new things within my field, especially in the Microsoft world, and see what comes out on e.g. BUILD, Ignite, or other events.

There is a very rapid development on the Power platform, so it is necessary to follow along.

Interesting, can you tell more about the Power Platform?

Microsoft's Power Platform provides a lot of tools to modernize outdated or what is also called legacy IT systems. The systems may be limited by the fact that time has passed from the technology, that they are difficult for new employees to operate, or that they are no longer maintained by the manufacturer.

Power Automate and Power Apps provide great opportunities to streamline workflows. With Power Automate, you can almost say that I am building a software robot for the customers. They get a lot done automatically once it's built. Power Bi provides broad analytical options and makes it easier for all kinds of users to access relevant data.

Microsoft has a lot of certification options, do you have any?

I have certifications within Microsoft Azure and Power BI.

What drives you at work and in your role, what's fun?

I like solving problems in a structured and pragmatic way. I always try to bring structure and a solid foundation into the projects I work on.

So, to a large extent, it is creating order in chaos by creating systems that make it possible to work more systematically than before.

That is why I am also very interested in automation and the automation of workflows and data processing as one of my most prestigious tasks.

What is the best thing about working in Cegal?

It is incredibly nice to have colleagues at Cegal who are good at what they do and to have the best tools to do my work.

Which app do you use the most, an why?

Most likely safari to read hackernews. Hackernews is the primary way I keep up to date on the tech front.

What is your favorite quote and why?

From my time studying at ITU:
”Man is an animal suspended in webs of significance he himself has spun”.

Clifford Geertz, antropolog

Is there a fun fact we should know about you??

In addition to tech, I am also quite interested in films, especially those that may be a little outside of what is normally shown in the cinema 😊

For example, I saw virtually all the "Korean wave" films in the 00s. I can recommend films like "Memories of murder", "Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter... and Spring" and "Failan".

Fun fact: I have rated over 1,000 films I have seen on IMDB, so if you love films, we have a common interest.

I also go to quite a few music festivals around Europe. I was, among other things, at Sziget this summer with my wife and 450,000 other festival-goers 🎧🎵

Last but not least, I am a passionate follower of Arsenal since Euro 2000 when I saw Henry play. I have been to the stadium a couple of times most recently where I witnessed the miracle against Bournemouth ⚽
