Whilst Cegal's focus is firmly on energy tech, we also support a range of local customers, such as Taylors Industrial Services. Founded in 1962, Taylors Industrial Services has grown to become one of Scotland’s leading providers of industrial and hazardous waste management services. The company delivers essential services around the clock, including dry waste and recycling, skip hire, septic and marine tank cleaning. With operations dependent on its people, vehicles, facilities and digital systems working together, reliable and secure technology plays an important role in keeping the business moving.

As the business continued to evolve and embrace new technologies as part of its digital transformation, Taylors recognised the importance of strengthening cyber security across its systems, processes, and workforce, to protect business-critical information and support future growth.

To build a more consistent and sustainable approach to managing cyber risk, Taylors engaged Cegal to deliver a coordinated cyber security programme spanning infrastructure, vulnerability management, email protection, employee awareness and Cyber Essentials certification.

Building a Consistent Security Foundation

For Taylors, cyber security was not simply a technology challenge. As an organisation that depends on reliable systems and communications, protecting the business required a broader approach that addressed infrastructure, user behaviour and evolving cyber threats.

Cegal's domain experts worked closely with the Taylors team to understand its environment and operational priorities and identify gaps and certification requirements, before implementing a practical security programme designed to strengthen resilience while supporting long-term improvement.

Cegal delivered a connected suite of software in which multiple security layers work together to reduce risk and improve visibility across the organisation without disrupting operations, or creating unnecessary complexity for users.

Strengthening Network Infrastructure and Security Controls

The first phase focused on reviewing and strengthening the network environment. Cegal implemented improvements designed to provide more consistent management of connectivity and security controls, creating a stronger operational foundation for both existing systems and future security enhancements. These changes established a more resilient foundation from which additional protective measures could be deployed.

To give Taylors greater insight into potential risks, vulnerability scanning was introduced across the in-scope environment. This provided a repeatable process for identifying technical weaknesses and prioritising remediation activities. Rather than depending on periodic manual reviews, the business gained ongoing visibility that could support continuous improvement and informed decision-making

Recognising that email remains one of the most common routes for cyber attacks, Cegal implemented additional security controls designed to identify and block threats, including phishing attempts, impersonation attacks, malicious links and harmful attachments. These measures strengthened protection around a business-critical communication channel used throughout the organisation.

Technology controls were complemented by a structured programme of employee engagement and awareness. Controlled phishing campaigns and targeted cyber security training helped colleagues identify suspicious communications, protect credentials and respond appropriately to potential threats.

Certification and Lasting Business Value

Alongside the technical improvements, Cegal guided Taylors through the Cyber Essentials assessment process, helping define the certification scope, review controls, gather supporting evidence and address identified gaps.

In August 2025, Taylors successfully achieved Cyber Essentials certification following a comprehensive review of its systems, processes and information, supported by Cegal. Building on this milestone, the company successfully renewed its certification in 2026 as part of its continued commitment to cyber security and operational resilience.

The benefits extended beyond certification, Taylors gained improved visibility of technical vulnerabilities, enhanced protection against email-based threats and a workforce better equipped to recognise potential risks. Together, these measures have established a more joined-up approach to cyber security across the organisation.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, the combination of vulnerability management, technical controls and ongoing awareness activities provides a foundation for continuous improvement while supporting growing customer and partner expectations around cyber risk management.

For Taylors, the outcome is a more joined-up approach to cyber security, one that supports reliable operations today while creating a stronger platform for future digital initiatives.

Throughout the engagement, Cegal worked as an extension of our team. Their practical approach helped us understand where improvements were needed and how to address them in a way that made sense for our business. We now have stronger visibility, improved controls and greater confidence.
