A power supplier is a company you purchase electricity from. In Norway, we can choose which power supplier we wish to purchase electricity from. The largest Norwegian power supplier is Statkraft, which is also Norway's largest power generator.
The terms "power company" and "power generator" should not be confused with "power supplier". A power supplier is a company you purchase electricity from, but it may not necessarily generate electricity itself.
Power suppliers are competitors who offer different prices and contractual terms and conditions. However, you receive your electricity via the same distribution grid, regardless of the power supplier you choose. If you switch power supplier, you will still have to pay the grid tariff to your local grid company. There is no fee for switching power suppliers in Norway.
Power suppliers purchase electricity on the power exchange, directly from producers or generate the electricity themselves.
