What does a typical workday look like to you?

Now we are finally back in the office and have the opportunity to meet both customers and colleagues. I am relatively sociable as a person and really appreciate this. My workday is very varied. A combination of internal meetings and meeting existing and potential new customers. Through my work in our new global sales team, I am also fortunate enough to meet customers and colleagues globally. I have just returned from a trip to Houston where we had meetings with energy companies and not least, I spent time with Cegal SYSCO employees in Houston.

What are typical tasks for your team?

We work with business development in all our business areas; software, consulting and cloud solutions. In the team we have high expertise in renewable energy as well as oil and gas. In short, the business development team want to work out opportunities that the different regions can take over and create business from.

The team I work with is very keen to understand and support the regions in decisions to be made when entering new markets or further developing existing markets. This could include promoting our consultants or services in a new region or introducing software to new customers through marketing campaigns with our global sales and marketing team.

Which technologies do you work with?

I work with software and cloud solutions. Alongside GeoCloud, our cloud solution for digitization and collaboration, I work with our technical software that helps geoscientists in energy companies do their jobs more efficiently.

What drives you at work and in your role, what's fun?

"The job must be fun! I'm not going to say that every day is just as fun, but it's an incredibly important part of everyday life for me!"

I am very strongly driven by technology. I have several times helped "start up" companies. It's one thing to create value for owners, but it's just as important to help create products and services that others use and can't do without. This gives me an incredible kick.

Alongside that, through work I have had the opportunity to travel and live abroad. Meeting people in other countries and cultures is something I have really enjoyed throughout my career.

What's the best thing about working at Cegal?

Freedom✔

Tech ✔

Exciting tasks ✔

Good colleagues ✔

"I'm mostly having fun at work!"

You are an educated geologist – but work in a tech company – can you say a little more about the combination?

I joined Cegal from a company called Blueback Reservoir. We developed software and worked as consultants in oil and gas. An important reason why we merged with Cegal was to supplement Cegal's IT expertise with domain understanding from the oil and gas industry to our joint customers. A perfect match for a geologist. The company has now evolved further when we have merged Cegal and SYSCO. We are no longer a company that only supports oil and gas customers, but a new company that supports all customers in the energy sector with software, consultancy services and cloud operations. This gives a geologist like me the opportunity to learn new disciplines such as geothermal activity and carbon capture to name a few examples.

What is your podcast favorite, and why?

“Rekommandert” and “Krig og Fred”. A lot of fun storytelling (Rekommandert), international politics interests me (Krig og Fred). I miss “Radioresepsjonen”.... It's not the same anymore.

What is your favorite quote?

«Du verden» which confirms that I am an old man😊

Is there anything fun we should know about you?

I generally like to exercise. I run a lot and try to go to the gym at SATS. I have two dogs that every year are prepared for one of the highlights of the year; Grouse hunting!

Something not so many people know about me is that I have a major in Paleontology, in which I described a fish lizard (a reptile that looked like a dolphin and lived in the sea in the middle age of the earth). I am also a member of “Friends of the Paleontological Museum” in Oslo!

I have arranged geology trips with Cegal employees to Kolsåstoppen and hope I can do the same with new colleagues in due course. Oslo's geology is something everyone should know something about, as many parallels can be drawn to the North Sea and the geology there.
