The data behind some of Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital’s most important IT systems are in Oracle databases. It is critical that the databases always are available. Therefore, Lovisenberg has chosen Cegal to oversee the databases. (Photo: Unsplash)

“I haven’t yet met anyone in Cegal who does not know what they are doing. Even their salespeople have deep system expertise”
Tommy Holvik, Section leader eHealth and ICT at Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital.

In 2018, Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital entered into an operating agreement with Cegal. Through this agreement, the Oslo Hospital is provided with ongoing assistance, monitoring, and operational services. Cegal has called its operating agreement HUBRO, and it includes various categories of services offered at a fixed price. The services include databases in general, and all parts of the Oracle stack.

The choice fell naturally when Cegal was to name its operating service. The name is taken from Europe’s largest owl, hubro. Among other things, it has a fantastic night vision and can turn its head around 360 degrees. This is reflected in the HUBRO agreement, which is a comprehensive, 360-degree agreement. It covers all aspects of operation, such as maintenance, license administration, security, updates and 24-hour monitoring. Cegal’s HUBRO takes care of your data while you sleep.

Oracle is the foundation of DIPS

Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital uses DIPS Arena as a patient data and medical record system. DIPS Arena is the most modern system for patient data in the market. A newly developed and innovative electronic patient record system that is specially designed for the Norwegian healthcare system. DIPS Arena simplifies, streamlines, and secures everyday life for patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals. Among other things, it gives patients the opportunity to have a better overview of their own treatment.

The underlying data and information that DIPS Arena uses is in the Oracle database.

“Through the HUBRO agreement, Cegal ensures that our Oracle database works properly. The Cegal consultants are great at digging deep into things and recommend changes where it’s needed. Since Oracle is the foundation of some of the hospital’s most critical systems, we rely on Oracle databases being always available, every day of the year. This uptime can only be ensured through good competence at the operating supplier. We feel that Cegal has delivered above expectations, and are very satisfied with the collaboration.”

Good competence is critical

Good competence is critical for the users at the hospital to experience great performance and stability on completely critical systems.

“We know what causes a service to crash and can set up alarms at the correct threshold values. That way we can adjust before there are problems”

Petter Minge, Cegal

He adds that Cegal also can set up high availability solutions according to customers’ needs at agreed prices.  “If things go really wrong, we have solutions and expertise that makes it quick to get started again”, Minge continues. He says that Cegal delivers the HUBRO services on Oracle database, middleware, and platform, but also covers other platforms and technologies.

- Due to the strong growth we have had in the past year, we have expanded the portfolio of HUBRO services. We now also cover MS-SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL and MongoDB, in the same way as Oracle. We are now working on new HUBRO services such as Kafka, Elasticsearch (ELK stack), Graphana, Hadoop and Kubernetes. These are very exciting areas that will probably have a large growth in the future. When it comes to consulting and technical support, we also have great expertise in the major cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Amazon AWS and Oracle Cloud, Minge concludes.
