What is Database monitoring?

The monitoring of databases is used in mission-critical environments in order to obtain advance warnings or pointers if something is wrong, or about to go wrong.

The service can also safeguard data from the monitoring, and thereby predict trends. You can detect non-conformities, predict future situations and/or find out much more accurately when something has changed. Safeguarding data can be useful for doing everything from optimising your database to finding out how changes in your operating environment are affected by things that happen in your database.

Monitoring is used to identify conditions that could cause problems in the future (proactive monitoring) or to give warning that a problem has arisen, enabling the service to be restored as rapidly as possible.

The monitoring of databases and associated infrastructure is extremely important, as databases are often a cornerstone of services. If a database goes down or encounters problems, there will often be consequences for the entire service that runs on the database.

Cegal and Database monitoring

Cegal has extensive experience of setting up appropriate monitoring systems with respect to databases and associated infrastructure. We do this for many small and large customers in the Nordic countries. We can monitor Oracle databases, MS SQL, Postgres and MYSQL databases. We also possess strong expertise relating to other types of database, such as MongoDB, Elasticsearch, NoSQL to mention just a few.

Cegal offers "Managed Services" 24/7×365, where proactive monitoring is one of the services. This service provides customers with an “insurance policy” and reassurance that qualified expertise is monitoring their systems. The 24/7 team receives information if something is behaving abnormally and takes the appropriate action.
