Good Food Group's downtime was solved with a database analysis

A routine update triggered a stop in production. It required a database specialist (DBA) to identify the cause, get up and running again.

Good Food Group is an international company with roots in Denmark, which was founded in 1951. They produce, import, and sell a wide range of the conventional, organic, and plant-based foods that are on the shelves in supermarkets. In order to produce the large amount of food, their production equipment must run around the clock. It is therefore extremely critical that there are no server failures or other types of delays, as such a break in production can cost up to several million NOK a day.

After something as ordinary as a routine system upgrade, Good Food Group was faced with an urgent problem when their conveyor belt had suddenly stopped, bringing all production to a halt.

With a systematic SQL database analysis, the problem was quickly located and corrected.

After Good Food Group's own IT staff had tried to solve the problem without success, they called Cegal. That day I was glad I knew about Cegal and their skills.

I had heard good things about Cegal, but had not yet tried them myself.”

Bjarne Dahl Kristensen, Good Food Group, IT-manager.

In collaboration with Good Food's own IT staff, a database analysis of their Microsoft SQL database was carried out. The analysis showed that the system upgrade was to blame for the production line's sudden stop. The system upgrade had caused the database to become corrupted.

The solution turned out to be relatively simple. The corrupted database was recreated using a backup version, and the production line was up and running again, much to the relief of everyone involved.

"This was an obvious opportunity to test Cegal`s skills and I must say, they have competent consultants with fast service. We solved the acute problem and now we regularly collaborate with Cegal to optimize and ensure reliability in our SQL server environment.”

Bjarne Dahl Kristensen, Good Food Group, IT-manager

The SQL analysis makes it possible to locate simple errors that would otherwise have been difficult to find. A database analysis is an effective tool when the damage has already occurred, but can also be used to optimize existing systems or prevent delays and any business-critical breakdowns.

Cegal works with the following databases; Oracle, Microsoft, MySQL and PostGreSQL. Your database can be in an IT environment on-prem, hybrid or in the cloud.

If a weak database is holding back your IT setup and hindering your opportunities for growth and innovation, a database analysis and database optimization, can ensure better performance that leaves room for growth, and in some cases postpone the need for hardware modernization.
