OUGN 2023 - a success!

Written by Editorial staff | May 2, 2023 1:12:29 PM

After a few years of pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OUGN returned with a theme inspired by the movie "Back to the Future". Cegal had a strong presence, delivering several presentations on how we have assisted our customers in moving their Oracle systems to the cloud, specifically the Oracle Cloud, thereby securing their infrastructure for the future.

On April 24th and 25th, the Oracle User Group Norway (OUGN) 2023 conference was held at Rebel in Oslo. OUGN conference is an annual event that was disrupted by the pandemic, and it had been four years since the last OUGN was held. The conference gathered over 200 people, and it was great to see how happy people were to meet again.

Cegal is a proud sponsor of OUGN and was one of the partners presented on stage. Ann-Sofie Vikström Often from Cegal is also the leader of OUGN, and together with the board, she has done a fantastic job working with the event organizer, Macsimum. OUGN is a conference with a significant international participation and speakers from all over the world, and it was great to see participants from other Nordic countries as well. Cegal had representatives from its offices in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden.

This year's keynote speaker was James Allerton-Austin, the Europe Director for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Centre of Excellence. He talked about the opportunities within Oracle Cloud, focusing on security, scalability, cost, and flexibility. James presented this in a professional and engaging way. There are few people who know as much about Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as he does, and he was able to answer every question thrown his way.

The theme for OUGN 2023 was inspired by the movie "Back to the Future" (1985), and the conference featured 7 parallel tracks! The host of the event, Matt C. Smith, was dressed as Marty McFly from the movie and had a well-worn skateboard in hand! Smith was an energetic host who kicked off the event in a great way. Rebel's venue also showcased a DeLorean car, which we also see in the movie. Of course, it was properly photographed.

Sissel Nøkling from Cegal had to sit in the DeLorean car 😀

Own Oracle APEX demo room

During OUGN, Cegal reserved one of the meeting rooms at Rebel to present solutions we have developed on LowCode in Oracle APEX. Many of our customers got to see demos of our APEX solutions. Oracle APEX is the world's most popular LowCode platform for businesses. APEX allows you to build scalable, secure enterprise apps with world-class features that can be distributed anywhere - in the cloud or locally. With APEX, developers can quickly develop and distribute great apps that solve real problems that immediately provide business value. With the help of APEX, you don't have to be an expert in many different technologies to deliver sophisticated solutions.

Seven parallel themes both days

Cegal was responsible for the APEX track - and our impression is that everyone at the conference who works with development and APEX as a tool was very satisfied with the technical content. We got the same impression from those who attended the other sessions. It is clear that many people are working with Oracle Cloud now.

Cegal held 6 sessions - 3 of them on Oracle Cloud, one on Oracle Golden Gate and 2 on Database development:

  • Migration by Automation to Oracle Cloud (OCI) in a big scale | Yilmaz Guleryuz / Phong Pham.
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - A Customer story | Thomas Isaksen / Jon Petter Hjulstad / Vinay Adivarekar.
  • Use Oracle Golden Gate to achieve real-time data replication and synchronization | Vinay Adivarekar / Jon Petter Hjulstad.
  • Oracle Cloud Observability | Dhayanand Sahadevan.
  • Ways to the Bacon | Kim Berg Hansen, Denmark.
  • Analytic Functions 101 | Kim Berg Hansen, Denmark.

Cegal has been involved in many Oracle Cloud migrations recently, and an example we presented here is a customer who has invested heavily in Infrastructure as Code with a dedicated Platform team. They went live before Easter, and their investment in the Platform team has been a great success. In this way, they can quickly establish new environments, as well as make changes to configurations, patching, etc. with minimal risk and downtime.

There was good attendance at the sessions, here from our presentation on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure "A customer story".
