## What is Bard? 

Bard is Google's answer to OpenAI’s [ChatGPT](https://www.cegal.com/en/dictionary/chatgpt) and Microsoft’s Bing Chat. It is a [generative AI ](https://www.cegal.com/en/dictionary/generative-ai)search and [chatbot](https://www.cegal.com/en/dictionary/chatbot) that makes use of [LLM](https://www.cegal.com/en/dictionary/large-language-models)s (Large Language Models) to generate a response to the user. Bard is utilizing a lightweight and optimized version of Google's language model called LAMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications).  

Bard acts as an extended arm to Google's search function, through a chat function it can look up information and deliver it in the form of a conversation. The mix of search and generative AI makes it more like Microsoft Bing Chat than Chat GPT that does not have updated information about recent events.  

Bard was launched as a private preview in some markets in January 2023 and can be accessed by joining a waiting list.
