What is Oracle Exadata?

Oracle Exadata is an IT platform which is optimised for Oracle databases. Oracle Exadata features unique software and hardware solutions for ultra-high performance with a minimum of licenses.

Oracle Exadata was introduced in 2008 and, since October 2015, it has been available either as a local product (On-premises) or via Oracle Cloud as a subscription service, known as Exadata Cloud Service and Exadata Cloud@Customer.

Like Exadata "on-premise," Exadata Cloud@Customer is located at the customer's operations centre, while Exadata Cloud Service comprises dedicated hardware at Oracle's operations centre (Cloud).

Exadata Cloud Service

Exadata Cloud Service makes it possible to harness the combined power of Exadata and Oracle Cloud. You have unrestricted access to the features and operations available with Oracle Database, with Oracle as the owner and administrator of the Exadata infrastructure.

As a customer, you can scale an Exadata Cloud Service configuration to meet workload needs and only pay for the estimated resources you need.  The service includes all Oracle Enterprise options.  Exadata Cloud Service is a high-performance platform with good consolidation.

Exadata Cloud@Customer

Exadata Cloud@Customer is a solution for those who want the services that the cloud can offer, but need to have their databases on-premises. The solution helps you meet stringent security requirements by providing Exadata Cloud Service features behind the data centre's firewall.  This is a Cloud solution for customers that need their databases to be localized.
