What is Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)?

Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) is one of several server technologies that Oracle has developed and customised for use in its own Oracle DB database.

Since Oracle acquired Sun Microsystems back in 2009, an entire family of custom systems has been developed under the collective term "Engineered Systems".

This type of server falls under the category of Medium (2U rack) as regards performance and capacity. It has a higher price and specification than a standard server, and therefore much better performance than a standard server. In addition, Oracle's database licences are adapted for use with ODA, which also makes it a favourable choice financially overall.

ODA is optimised for the installation and maintenance of Oracle databases. It is available in slightly different configurations based on needs as regards performance, storage and uptime and security requirements.

Cegal and Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)

As the leading Oracle partner in the Nordic region, Cegal has delivered dozens of ODA servers to our customers. We will typically analyse the need in advance and then help the customer choose the right configuration. A fixed-price project will then typically be delivered which takes care of the conversion and relocation of existing databases across to new ODA server(s). Cegal will then normally enter into an agreement to monitor/maintain the customer's databases.
