What is HTML?

HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) is the fundamental technology used to define the structure of a webpage. By using tags, it specifies whether the web content should be recognized as a paragraph, list, heading, link, image, form, or one of many other available elements.

HTML is a formal recommendation by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is thus the default standard for the creation of websites and web-based documents. When you visit a web page, its server sends its HTML files to your browser. The browser then reads the HTML in the files and displays it in the way that it is intended.

HTML is one of the core technologies of the World Wide Web, alongside JavaScript which is used to describe a web page’s functionality and CSS which is used to describe a web page's appearance. Together, these technologies make a web page look good and interactive.
