HAN port

What is the HAN port?

All new electricity meters or smart meters (AMS) have an output called the HAN port (Home Area Network), which you can connect to. You must contact your grid company in order to open the HAN port. The data extracted from the HAN port is your property. This means that the grid company or a third party must enter into an agreement with you if they also wish to receive your data from the HAN port. You decide whether or not you wish to use the various services that are offered through the HAN port.

What can the HAN port be used for?

In 2020, there are now over 50 suppliers offering equipment that you can connect to the HAN port. For example, this equipment enables you to monitor electricity consumption down to intervals of a few seconds. You can also monitor other parameters, such as voltage. If you generate electricity from solar panels yourself, you can also monitor your own production. If you have controllable heat pumps, electric car chargers, etc., these can be coordinated with electricity consumption data from HAN and electricity prices in order to reduce consumption during peak periods, when electricity is more expensive.
