What is a Data Lakehouse?

As the name suggests, a Data Lakehouse is a new type of data architecture that combines the best of a Data Lake with a Data Warehouse to address the shortcomings of each.

The essential Lakehouse system uses low-cost storage to maintain massive amounts of data in its original forms, just like Data Lakes. It is possible to add a layer of metadata on top, which provides data structure and fertile ground for data management tools such as those found in Data Warehouses.

A Data Lakehouse thus stores the huge amounts of organized, semi-structured, and unstructured data that it receives from the various business applications, systems, and gadgets used throughout the company's organization. This enables multiple teams to access all of the company's data through a single system for a variety of initiatives, such as data science, machine learning, and business intelligence.
