What is AVO?

In geophysics and seismology, Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) refers to the dependency of the seismic attribute (amplitude) with the distance between the source and receiver (the offset).

Geophysicists uses AVO analyses on seismic data to determine the content, porosity and density of rocks. In the oil and gas industry, AVO analyses are used to detect hydrocarbon reservoirs.

Cegal and AVO

Exploring the AVO relationships in seismic data can prove to be extremely valuable and can provide information about possible oil and gas accumulations.

Cegal have effectively commercialised the application of AVO techniques within Blueback Seismic Reservoir Characterization, providing a clear and defined workflow for rock and seismic properties.

Expanding on the use of AVO, Blueback ODiSI provides an advanced Stochastic Inversion Algorithm and workflow which brings together all known geological and geophysical information to produce high quality property estimates of a reservoir.
