As a diverse and global tech company, Cegal wants to contribute and inspire girls to choose a career in tech. This year, Cegal has been proud sponsor of TENK Tech Camp, the annual technology all-girls camps across Norway.

Each year, the Women at Cegal board brainstorms which external and internal projects, initiatives, and events to invest in. The board aims to work towards retaining and increasing female diversity in the company, as well as contributing to a positive culture building for all women. These goals have almost become an industry standard, despite the industry still having a long way to go. I believe much of the potential in the current workforce has been reached, and in order to reach even further, there is a shift in trends, interests, and investment that needs to continue to happen. Therefore, last year during the Women at Cegal planning meeting for 2023, there was an additional emphasis on student initiatives.

For the fourth year, Cegal has assisted at TENK Tech Camp, a technology camp for girls aged 13-18 all across Norway. In previous years, Cegal (and earlier Sysco) has partnered with the educational group YoungCoderz to put together a workshop for the event in Oslo.

This year, however, the Women at Cegal board pushed Cegal to take a step further and commit to being a national sponsor.

We need more women in tech so taking part in the TENK Tech Camp is a great opportunity. Thanks to Women at Cegal and our super skilled mentors for inspiring the next generation of female leaders!
Dagfinn Ringås, CEO at Cegal

As a growing tech powerhouse, Cegal now has women working with technology in several major cities in Norway. This meant that we this year had the resources to organize groups of mentors not only in Oslo but also in Stavanger and Bergen. The mentors decided collectively in advance to teach the girls how to build mobile apps using MIT's App Inventor. This software tool lets you intuitively create fully functioning apps in as little as 30 minutes. It is a great tool designed for everyone, young and old, with a laptop and phone.

In Oslo, the camp was held at Norsk Teknisk Museum, and the group of mentors consisted of Magdalena Loboda, Lisa Greenquist, Sarah Rayfuse, Julie Rabben Mohr, and Kristina Teigland together with the founder and CEO of YoungCoderz Anuradha Sridharan.

I was yet again amazed by their creativity, eagerness to learn new things and quickly develop things - all the skills we need in today’s young professionals.
Anuradha Sridharan, Founder and CEO YoungCoderz

This year TENK hosted a camp in Stavanger for the first time, and the local Cegal ladies Aleksandra Marszalek, Anette Andreassen, Caroline Midtlien Mathiassen, Cristiana Caramihai and Marianne Hjørnevik Andersen were impressed by how TENK organized the event for over 200 girls.

I’m so proud and happy to have been part of this amazing initiative, where we not only taught the girls how to code, but also how to collaborate, be creative, and solve problems. It was such a joy to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and determination as they learned new things and faced new challenges.

Cegal contributed by inspiring them to create their own mobile app with their favorite pet – how cool is that?! 🤩

Over the past years, several women have joined Cegal's office location in Bergen. For the second year, TENK has organized a camp there and Cegal mentors Kristina Syrstad, Thea Blom Bergenheim, and Milena Radulovic inspired girls at the Public Library.

It is fantastic to be one of many companies contributing to this common goal and moving in the right direction together!
