Bruce Chalmers has been working in Cegal since 2012. With a dream of obtaining research degree juggling full-time work with full-time study can sound daunting, but planning and a flexible employer can make all the difference and obtaining a degree while working possible.

In 2014, Bruce applied at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen which allows students to complete Research Degrees, at various levels (Msc, Mphil or Phd) full time or part time.

In 2015 Bruce started a 26-month MPhil program as part of the School of Engineering. He set out his own topic and research interests, and attended a one-week research starter course. The research was highly based on independent work, although there were regular check ins with an advisory team. Bruce did the work remotely, using university online library and journals database, in addition to a university technical software provided by the university via Citrix.

Two years of hard work, and one exam later, Bruce Chalmers was awarded a MPhil Degree.

"I would recommend a part time research degree to anyone looking to pursue academic or research interest while still working" says Bruce Chalmers

"I would recommend a part time research degree to anyone looking to pursue academic or research interest while still working. You can set the exact topic that you would like to investigate and work in a supportive environment for completing your research. With no exams throughout the study, however, you must rely on yourself to complete the various milestones. Part Time or Distance research is also made much easier through the universities IT systems. Everything I needed was available remotely, via RGU, from Library books to Matlab licenses” says Bruce Chalmers.

We congratulate Bruce with complete Master´s Degree in Geophysics!
